PRESS RELEASE: health workers support march
Dear colleagues,
We have seen that some of the public institutions have recently issued a summons to their staff (including medical staff) to carry out a public walk of thanks to the Head of State following the recent decrees introducing free health care Health and bonuses to contractual medical personnel in the public service.
This planned march in the city of Yaoundé on the 21/03/2017 is supposed to be carried out by personnel dressed in clean white blouses, on the distance between the Central Hospital of Yaounde and the Ministry of Health .
Having committed a Manifesto for the improvement of Cameroon’s healthcare system, which received 850 physician signatures on 22/04/2016, we are pleased to see a first step towards a decent and fair revaluation of the wage situation of health.
However, this is only the beginning of a long journey to bring medical and paramedical personnel out of precariousness, and for which we confirm our commitment. For example, it should be recognized that the average salary of the doctor in the categories covered by these decrees will vary between 155 300 FCFA and 173 300 FCFA, well below the minimum of the 500 000 FCFA suggested at the end of the analysis to allow the doctor to To live with a minimum of decency in Cameroon in 2017.
